Ray Enix
Electric bassist Ray Enix fell in love with his instrument at an early age when he discovered his next door neighbor, a bassist in a local rhythm & blues band. Not long after, he bought an electric bass and started teaching himself to play.
Having already played trombone & violin in elementary school and junior high, music was no stranger to Ray. And in a short time, he was playing his way into local bands in the greater L.A. area.
He started out playing R&B, Funk and Top 40 covers in local clubs. Then touring military bases in California, Nevada & Utah. Eventually, he also started playing in local gospel choirs. To nurture a newfound love for jazz and to give greater expression to his overall passion for music, he studied at the Jamie Faunt School of Creative Music in Studio City for 6 years.
Today, after 20+ years as a professional musician, Ray has little problem finding a “gig.” He enjoys and plays all types of music. On any given night he might be laying down a smoking hot ostinato for a jazz-fusion group, walking the “rhythm changes” at a black-tie casual with a smooth jazz ensemble or laying down the tumbao anchoring a sizzling latin combo.
His latest passion, however, is being the bassist that’s “cuttin’ the cake” with L.A.’s newest R&B/funk/soul powerhouse, The Get Down. About this group Ray says, “Don’t let the smooth taste fool you. ‘The Get Down’ gets down!”
