Reno Behnken
Reno has been playing music since age 5, beginning with Classical piano lessons and moving onto jazz in middle school. Since then, he’s played a variety of musical styles, from orchestral to pop, progressive rock and metal to musical theater and big band, funk to comedy songs, and many more. He prefers to play and write music that exists somewhere on the inner spectrum of experimental to accessible, and seeks to challenge both himself and the listener to engage with the art form actively rather than passively. Originally studying Paleontology, Reno realized his passion for the natural sciences did not translate to an affinity for academia. After finishing his undergrad experience, he proceeded to dive head-first into creative endeavors, and this eventually led to him joining the group that would become The Get Down. As the band’s musical director and lead arranger, he hopes to help facilitate the beaming of cosmic groove rays directly into your ears and brain so you can translate that to the funky movements of your body.
